Why choose Sociology

Understand humans, society, and social life

Sociology means “the study of the social” – but what does that really mean?

Why do we dance around a Christmas tree once a year? Why do we date the way we do? What makes certain clothes “cool” – and why can a gift sometimes feel wrong? And why do we disagree so much about what counts as good art, music, and film?

At Højskolen Mors , we work with exactly these questions and explore how people think, act, and live – both globally, in Denmark, and within our own folk high school community.

What we work with in sociology

In the teaching, we explore topics such as:

  • How norms, culture, and communities shape our behaviour
  • What identity means in a modern world
  • How social structures influence our opportunities
  • Why we live the way we do

You are introduced to key sociological theories and gain tools to understand the world in new ways.

Teaching with theory and practice

The teaching is varied and engaging and combines:

  • Lectures and group discussions
  • Reflection and conversation
  • Exercises and small experiments

We also work practically with sociology – for example by:

  • Creating our own rituals
  • Testing theories in everyday life
  • Exploring social dynamics within the community

The subject is particularly relevant if you are considering higher education within the social sciences or humanities, such as political science, sociology, anthropology, or education studies. You gain a solid academic foundation and insight into theories that can strengthen your application and prepare you for student life.

Sociology at Højskolen Mors is for you who do not take the world for granted, but want to understand it. For you who wonder about people, communities, and society – and who want to think more deeply and see the world from new perspectives.

Are you ready to ask the questions most people never get to ask?
