Music Theory – Understanding Music in Depth
Music Theory at Højskolen Mors is a subject for those who want to understand how music is constructed and how it works in practice. The course provides insight into the fundamental elements of music and enables you to analyze, describe, and speak about music in a qualified way.
In class, we work with core topics within music theory such as rhythm, melody, harmony, and form. You will be introduced to concepts like scales, chords, and the circle of fifths, while also connecting theory to the music you know from everyday life. We actively listen to different genres and use theory as a tool to understand musical structure and expression.
Music theory functions both as an independent subject and as a strong supplement to practical music teaching, such as ensemble playing, choir, or singing. The teaching is adapted to your level so you can develop your musical skills, whether you are a beginner or already have experience with music.
No prior knowledge is required. The most important thing is your interest in music and your desire to understand how music works.
Are you completely passionate about music?
Are you passionate about music and want to immerse yourself in it every day? At Højskolen Mors, you can choose Music as your main subject and combine it with electives such as Music Production, Music Theory, Vocal training, World music and Choir.
Here, you become part of a creative community where you develop your musical skills through both practical and theoretical teaching.

Teacher in music
Gry holds a Master’s degree in Musicology from Aarhus University, with a focus on both band leadership and music anthropology. Since early childhood, she has been deeply curious about the world of music – both the music we create together and the ways music shapes us, influences us, and builds communities.
She grew up within the Danish free school tradition and knows the Folk High School Songbook inside out. She believes that morning assembly and communal singing are among the very best ways to begin the day.
Gry also teaches choir, vocal training, kucheza, party band, and music.
