Ceramics at Højskolen Mors – Creative Immersion in Clay

Do you dream of working with clay and creating something with your own hands? At Højskolen Mors, we offer ceramics as a main subject, giving you the opportunity to immerse yourself in a creative, craft-based discipline within calm and inspiring surroundings.

Ceramics is an ancient craft where shaping, technique, and personal expression take center stage. Here, the pace is slowed down, leaving plenty of room for both deep focus and experimentation – whether you are a complete beginner or already have experience with clay and the pottery wheel.

A Creative Subject with Room for Both Technique and Experimentation

In this course, we work on creating both functional and aesthetic everyday objects, such as cups, bowls, and other ceramic items. At the same time, we explore sculptural work, allowing you to experiment freely and develop your own visual expression.

The teaching is based on both historical and modern approaches to ceramics, giving you a broad understanding of the craft as an artistic and cultural practice.

The subject requires dedication and patience, but the reward is great: watching your own ideas take shape in clay and evolve into finished pieces is a unique and deeply motivating process.

Birte Kildahl

Teacher in ceramics

Birte graduated as a teacher from Den Frie Lærerskole in Ollerup and has also attended the Aarhus Academy of Fine Arts. She is an instructor who invites play and experimentation into a safe learning environment – both in Ceramics and in the Creative Workshop, which Birte also teaches.

"Clay is a fantastic material! It is soft, malleable, a bit stubborn – yet responsive. During the firing process, you lose control and leave the rest to other forces; colors and strength are magically brought to life, and out of the kiln comes the solid ceramic. It is just as exciting every single time!"

I will introduce you to potters, aesthetic expressions and different approaches to working with clay.

Væbn’ dig med nysgerrighed, tøj der må blive beskidt, en lille smule tålmodighed og masser af skaberglæde – så vil du opleve, at resultaterne vokser frem mellem hænderne på dig!“

Both beginners and experienced ceramicists are welcome.
